The aim of the project is to strengthen the protection of genetic resources of endangered populations of Polish warmblood horse breeds through the development and implementation of an innovative method of training (preparation) and evaluation of native breeds of Wielkopolski and Małopolski stallions in a stationary training facility. The project is carried out on live horses and its aim is to change the value of the horse as a product through alternative rearing from foal to adult stallion and to increase its productive value.

The basic benefit of the Project will be obtaining, through the breeding, native stallions which will be used to recreate and preserve the original gene pool of Wielkopolski and Małopolski horses. The present population of these horses is mostly crossed with foreign breeds, which in further consequence will lead to a total loss of native genetic resources of Polish breeds. Obtaining stallions of native Wielkopolska and Małopolska breeds will be realized by means of newly developed methods of preparation (breeding, selection and training) and performance evaluation. An additional advantage will be the application of the developed methods already at the age of about 1.5 years of the stallion's life. In order to fully utilize the new methods to obtain native Wielkopolski and Małopolski stallions, within the framework of the operation the principles of functioning of the new method of organization will be developed and implemented. It will be dedicated to the creation of the first unit in Poland in stationary conditions - stallion rearing centre, whose aim will be to combine in one place all the stages: rearing, training, selection and conducting (passing) the performance trial for stallions. The organization and carrying out all activities in one center, under standarized conditions, gives the possibility of full and comprehensive use of the methods developed within the operation and allows to achieve the main objective which is to obtain fully valuable stallions of native breeds with high health, utility and genetic values. An additional result will be the creation of a platform/network to establish cooperation between breeders in the scope of stallion exchange and possibilities of improving the horse breeding population.
