The aim of the operation is to obtain an agricultural product which is straw with improved usability and to create appropriate technical, technological and organizational conditions necessary for the production of straws for drinking various beverages. Disposable plastic straws for drinking beverages have been common in most people's daily lives for years. In the EU alone, more than 36 billion straws are consumed on average annually, including 1.2 billion in Poland. Later they go to the bin and landfill, where their disposal takes about 450 years. The scale of the problem of the production of this type of plastic waste is so large that the EU directive established in 2018 prohibiting the sale of disposable plastics (including straws) from 2021. Straws made of straw are completely natural, biodegradable, and they do not dissolve or soften. However, their production is significantly more expensive than plastic ones. Currently, there are no machines for the mechanized production

Currently, in the market of Zero Waste accessories, consumers are looking for products of the highest ecological quality. Straw made of straw for drinking various beverages is in line with these trends. Therefore, it becomes expedient to develop technology and production of straws from straw. In practice, straws made of glass, metal, bamboo, paper, cornmeal, pasta, apples and cereals are used, and above all, natural straw, which is the stem of the cereal. The straws made in this way are fully natural, 100% biodegradable in the water and soil environment. However, their production is much more expensive due to the fact that it is mainly manual work with high costs. Prices can vary greatly from year to year, because such a straw, like any agricultural product, depends, among other things, on on weather and soil conditions. Their assortment is also significantly limited. The scale of production is also insufficient: there is information from catering units and shops that there is no such product on the market. There are also no offers on the market of technical and technological equipment for the production of straws for beverages, made of straw, as well as knowledge about the technique and technology of their production. So far, the sparse production of such straws is based mostly on manual human labor (which is why they are so expensive) and has a local range. Made from straw, using the results of this operation, the straws for beverages will be significantly cheaper than those produced today. They can also be an interesting offer on the market of European countries, where local productions, like in Poland, do not ensure a growing demand for such an environmentally friendly product.
