The aim of the project is to develop and implement innovations in broiler hatching, which will improve quality, reduce mortality and increase the chicks’ welfare. This will be achieved through research, development and investments. In conclusion, the Niemodlinski chick is a product characterized by increased welfare and better health status, enabling farmers to produce broiler chickens with better body weight and lower feed conversion rate. These chickens could be used for rearing both standard broilers and organic broilers.

Numerous scientific studies have shown that early feeding and watering of the chicks improves their health status, reduces weight loss during the process of hatching, reduces stress and allows for the optimal development of the immune system. The Niemodlinski chicks will be stronger and healthier than chicks hatched in traditional technology. The access to the feed and water will affect the faster development of the digestive tract and immune system and will increase body weight from the first day of life. This will be connected with an economic effect – in a healthier, unheated flock, the usage of antibiotics will be lower and in appropriate environmental conditions the production without the antibiotics will be possible. In addition, providing birds with probiotics in ovo will ensure early colonization of the digestive tract, limiting the possibility of colonization of pathogenic bacteria. It will reduce the occurrence of gastrointestinal disorders, diarrhea which will affect the quality of the litter and reduce the occurrence of inflammation of the foot pad (pododermatits). The chicken as a final product will therefore be cheaper in terms of production (larger and without the costs of antibiotic therapy) and also more attractive and safer for the consumer (no antibiotics and no potential contamination of Campylobacter sp). A lack of pododermatitis will increase the welfare of broiler chickens.
